We need a very special home for our dear Kiger Mustang, “Spirit”. Not only is Spirit a beautiful 27yo Dun Mustang with a heart of gold – but he’s also the son of the Kiger Mustang who inspired the Dreamworks movie and Netflix series: Spirit; Stallion of the Cimarron. Our Spirit carries the same curiosity, courage and bravery that the movie depicts of his sire.
His former owner raised Spirit with love since he was 6 months old and shared many adventures with him on trails and in the cowboy dressage show circuit. She became ill and realized she needed to entrust him to our care — to make sure he’d be safe, cherished, and never alone.
Spirit is losing his eyesight but his heart is still full of light. He is smart, sensitive and clear in his communication. He playfully lets us know where on his body he needs a good scratch, drops his head into our chest for some quite loving, and gently lets us know when he is worried and needs some guidance. He can still see during the day and wanders the pasture with the herd during the day. He has learned to follow another horse or human voice to lead him in the dark and is understanding his new reality with courage and grace.
Spirit is up to date on vaccinations, dental and farrier. Like many senior horses, he also has Cushings that is easily managed by one pill a day. He is healthy and energetic. Unfortunately, we do not have the right set up to accommodate his eyesight needs here at the rescue which is why we are asking for help to find his loving, forever home. Spirit is truly a special horse and SO deserves to have a caring home (with preferably another gelding) and a person or family to cherish him, care for him, and help him feel safe for the rest of his years.
