Dusty is a 28 yo Buckskin Missouri Foxtrotter Gelding. Besides being gorgeous to look at with his beautiful buckskin and distinct markings, Dusty is a super sweet, super smart horse. Very respectful and gentle. He was surrendered to us due to his owner becoming ill but was cared for and lightly ridden for the past 10 years. Dusty is rideable for light riding and skilled in verbal and body cues. He fully engages in connected ground games and liberty and is fantastic at the obstacle course - even with our beginner volunteers who are green with handling horses (see below video). He is patient and willing. Great for farrier, vet, loading and blanketing. Teeth floated in September along with vaccinations. Up to date on farrier and worming, as well.
Dusty does have a few special needs which are easily managed and make his life very happy.
~He has older teeth so eats a mash of grain for his meals. He LOVES it as you can see in the below pick of the mash on his face. :)
~He has Cushings which is perfectly managed with 1 pill per day of Prascend. He doesn't have any side effects from the medication and eats the pill right out of your hand or tossed in his mash. This would mean he would need to be watched on how much short grass he eats in the spring. Could be limited or wear a grazing muzzle.
~He wears shoes on his front feet due to thin soles. He now trots and canters around with great delight. (see video below)
~He is also losing a bit of peripheral sight but still plays and runs with the herd.
We just want to give you all the details up front, but, he truly is a love of a horse and deserves to find his forever home. Please come and meet him. You will fall in love.
