Marjorie McCoy; Founder and President

During her youth and teenage years, Marjorie spent most of her time thinking about, talking about, working with, riding, and showing horses. Starting out with her little Shetland Pony, Kataba, her love for horses grew to into her life-long passion. Her dream was to be a large animal vet specializing in equine health and traveling from ranch to ranch caring for the animals.

Her university studies toward an equine veterinarian degree were postponed by an unexpected but joyful career as a singer/dancer in New York and venues around the world. After her travels, she established herself in a successful consulting career and raised her lovely daughter, Hannah Morgan. But her desires to care for the needs of horses and animals never wavered. This passion led her to back to horses many times over the years.

Marjorie joined the team at the Sonoma Equine Rescue, Rehab, and Adoption (SERRA) in April 2016 volunteering to support the well-being, medical rehab, and training of the horses. She found herself pulled into the administrative development of SERRA, and accepted a position on the Board of Directors in March 2017. In September 2017, she was elected President. As a Director, she brought 25 years of business ownership, operations, management, and board officer experience for several for-profit and non-profit organizations, and experience in non-profit administration and fundraising.

In 2020, she stepped down as President of SERRA to seek her own path in horse rescue. Marjorie's experiences with SERRA are ones she will never forget and cherishes all the joy she helped bring to many horses and their owners.

In summer of 2020, Marjorie's search for horse property landed her in Penn Valley, CA with several acres of usable pasture land and started her own non-profit horse rescue. Marjorie founded Sundance Horse Rescue with the intention of rescuing, rehabilitating, and re-homing horses in need. Marjorie feels strongly that all treasured horses (and animals) deserve to be loved and live meaningful lives and is committed to being a part of that purpose. She will continue to work closely with SERRA and other rescue organizations to create more organized rescue efforts, build bigger networks of safe and loving forever homes, and find inspirational ways to educate the community in proper and gentle horse care. She also continues her advanced training as a certified large animal emergency first responder.

Bobbi Giudicelli

Bobbi spent her adult life as a mom, entrepreneur, and major animal lover. After spending years as a child bringing home strays (mostly dogs, but just about any species she found) that were turned away, she got a family dog, Scarlett, a beautiful Irish Setter. She unabashedly tells everyone that Scarlett saved her life and was the highlight of her childhood. She has never voluntarily been without animal love in her home since.

When her three sons were all teenagers, she volunteered with Guide Dogs for the Blind as a puppy raiser with her youngest son. Even after he left for school, she stayed with the organization, volunteering in other capacities as well. It was one of the most rewarding things she’s ever done.

When she moved up to Nevada County from the Bay Area, she immediately sought out Cheryl at Sammies Friends. After years of supporting that organization through her businesses, Cheryl asked her to join the board, which she very excitedly accepted and served on for over four years.

She came to horses late in life, but once she started, she was hooked. Bobbi met Marjorie when she adopted two mini horses that Sundance had rescued. They are now an integral part of her family of four dogs, four horses, and a cat. She jumped at the invitation to be a part of Sundance Horse Rescue and Sanctuary, an organization that does so much for the horses. She’s honored to be a part of helping it grow and expand to address the needs of our horse community.

Jackie Rose

Jackie’s love of horses began when she was very young at summer camp, and since that time, she has found herself drawn to people and agencies who also love horses. After moving to Penn Valley with her husband at the beginning of 2024, Jackie met Marjorie at the Draft Horse Classic and immediately knew that she wanted to support Sundance Horse Rescue. In fact, Jackie had been volunteering at a horse rescue in Ventura County for five years prior to moving to Penn Valley and was yearning to find another place with horses to volunteer.

Jackie began her professional career as a therapist and administrator of the largest substance abuse treatment agency, Spectrum Programs, Inc., in South Florida, with her final position being Vice President. During this same time, Jackie received her law degree and served as a part-time associate for a law firm in Ft. Lauderdale, Florida, and established a private consulting firm, Comprehensive Training Center (CTC). CTC specialized in non-profit board development, organizational capacity building, and professional development and leadership training.

Despite her successful careers, Jackie had always wanted to work with animals and, in 2007, moved from South Florida to Vermont to enter the animal welfare industry. Since that time, Jackie has held several executive positions in both non-profit and municipal animal welfare agencies across the United States. She served as the CEO of the Addison County Humane Society in Vermont, the CEO of the Dutchess County SPCA in New York, the Director of Animal Services for Multnomah County in Oregon, and the Director of Animal Services for Ventura County Animal Services in California. After leading animal welfare agencies for 18 years, in 2024, Jackie became the Chief Strategy Officer for DocuPet, a company with the mission to help increase lost pet reunification throughout the U.S. and Canada. Jackie continues to serve in this role today.

Jackie holds a bachelor’s degree in Psychology from the University of South Florida, a master’s degree in Counseling Psychology from Nova Southeastern University, a post-graduate certification in Human Resource Management from Florida International University, and a Juris Doctorate in Law from Nova Southeastern University. Jackie holds national certification from the Association for Animal Welfare Advancement as a Certified Animal Welfare Administrator (CAWA).

Jackie is originally from South Florida and, after having lived in all four corners of the U.S., now resides in Penn Valley with her husband, three dogs, and one cat.
