Mayla and Misha

Mayla and Misha’s journey began a little too early—but thanks to a second chance, it quickly became a story full of love, playfulness, and growth.
These two sweet girls were rescued at just five weeks old after being taken from their mother far too soon—only three weeks into life. Passed from one situation to another, they were already at risk of ending up in the wrong hands. We stepped in without hesitation, knowing they deserved safety, care, and a proper chance to thrive.
Though we may never know why they were separated so early, their behavior told part of the story. Both kittens instinctively tried to nurse for comfort, a clear sign they had missed out on critical time with their mama. We did everything we could to fill that gap—providing kitten formula alongside their meals, and surrounding them with consistent care, affection, and socialization with both people and other animals.
It didn’t take long for these little ones to steal our hearts.
We named the soft grey beauty Mayla and her sleek black sister Misha—and from there, their personalities began to shine. By five months old, they were spayed and vaccinated, thanks in part to the incredible support of Sammie’s Friends and their “Cat Crisis Fund,” which helps make essential care accessible.
Since then, Mayla and Misha have flourished into happy, healthy indoor cats. They get along wonderfully with other cats, dogs, and even Leo the Lamb, forming bonds across species with ease. Their days are filled with energy and adventure—chasing each other up and down stairs, darting through cat towers, leaping over furniture, and tumbling into cozy naps before doing it all over again.
Each sister brings her own special spark. Misha is the fetch enthusiast, happily retrieving her favorite toy mouse again and again like a tiny, furry retriever. Mayla, on the other hand, is the fearless “sky hunter,” launching herself into the air (and sometimes nearly up the walls!) in pursuit of imaginary birds and butterflies. Watching them play is pure joy.
While they now explore the outdoors as older and wiser cats, they will always be safely tucked inside or in a secure enclosure at night. Their safety and well-being will always come first.
Mayla and Misha share a beautiful bond and a zest for life that is truly contagious.
