Chip and Sweet Pea are a bonded duo who are as kind, talented, and loving as they come. Both experienced in driving, Chip is also rideable.
Chip is a 19-year-old Belgian draft gelding, 17 hh, healthy, sound, and smart. Calm, gentlemanly, and affectionate, he stands quietly for grooming, bathing, farrier, tacking, harnessing, and mounting. Chip is comfortable with other horses, dogs, cats, goats, and children. He has been professionally trained for both riding and driving—moving off verbal, hand, and leg cues with a smooth, easy stride. Chip has experience pulling carriages and logs, either as a single or part of a team, and he loves to nicker when he sees familiar faces, soaking up all the love he can get. He is fully up to date on dental care, vaccinations, deworming, and farrier visits (front shoes only).
Sweet Pea, a 20-year-old mule mare, has been Chip’s companion for a decade. Sweet, calm, and loyal, she knows how to drive and has been part of carriage teams in the past. She has glaucoma in her right eye, which doesn’t seem to slow her down—she sees shapes and shadows clearly, moves confidently, and enjoys grooming and care. Sweet Pea may be a Belgian cross or American Mammoth, standing around 14.1 hh with a big personality and even bigger heart.
Together, Chip and Sweet Pea are inseparable. They share a bond built over years of companionship and trust, and they thrive when allowed to be together. Whether riding, driving, or simply enjoying time in the pasture, their love for each other—and for gentle humans—is undeniable.
We have found a fantastic home for Chip and Sweet Pea (no renamed Polly Pocket-as she just wants to be as close as possible to her loving humans) where this extraordinary pair can continue to thrive together. Polly is the teaching mule for young people learning how to drive. Chip is a showman and champion at the Draft Horse Classic in both,
