Passed away 2025

Meet Dusty, a 28-year-old Buckskin Missouri Foxtrotter gelding whose golden coat and distinct markings reflect the beauty of his kind and gentle soul. Dusty’s life has been full of love, training, and meaningful connections, and he is now ready to enjoy a peaceful retirement in a forever home.

Dusty was surrendered to Sundance Horse Rescue when his owner became ill. Over the past decade, he has been cared for and lightly ridden, thriving with his natural intelligence and sweet temperament. He responds beautifully to verbal and body cues, enjoys connected ground games, and navigates obstacle courses with patience—even when handled by beginner volunteers. Calm, respectful, and willing, Dusty is a pleasure for farrier visits, veterinary care, blanketing, and trailer loading.

Though Dusty has a few special needs, they are easy to manage and do not diminish his joy for life. His older teeth mean he thrives on a grain mash, which he absolutely adores. He takes one Prascend pill per day for Cushing’s, with no side effects, and enjoys it right out of your hand or tossed in his mash. He wears front shoes for thin soles and is still able to trot and canter with delight. While he is losing a bit of peripheral sight, Dusty continues to play, run, and interact happily with his herd.

In October 2024, Dusty found a loving home with Jill and Gary, joining their 28-year-old Missouri Foxtrotter gelding, Star, for companionship and shared adventures in retirement. The boys are still getting to know each other, but we are certain their golden years together will be filled with peace, love, and laughter.

Dusty is a gentle, loving, and incredibly smart horse—anyone who met him will quickly fell in love.

Sadly, in the fall of 2025, Dusty passed away due to natural causes.  He is a true gentleman we will never forget.
