Adopted!! January 2022
Summer 2021: Lacey is a gorgeous, sound 17 year old OTTB mare comfortable with arena or trail riding. 16.2 hh. Lacey had a short career on the track and found her way into the caring hands of her previous owner for the past 15 years. Unfortunately, due to financial difficulties, this past summer, the owner needed to find Lacey a new home. Lucky for us, we received this wonderful girl and have been enjoying getting to know and spending time with her.
Lacey has a soft and quiet side when being groomed and loved on, a playful side after being bathed or hosed down on a hot day, and loves grazing with her herd mates. She is not aggressive with humans and other horses and doesn't exhibit the "normal mare behavior". She had a small cyst on her ovaries about 2 years ago so she was spayed. We believe this contributes to her calm attitude when being introduced to new horses. We have had 4 new horses come to the rescue (including 2 mares) since she arrived, and their introductions have been easy. She is independent, but responds to human guidance and gentle handling. She follows us around when mucking or other ranch chores but does is not pushy or disrespectful. She's a friendly girl. Good in a herd and with dogs, cats and farm animals.
When being ridden, she can be forward moving (like many TB's), but listens to consistent cues and practice. (see videos below). She is more comfortable in an English saddle with leg cues and direct reining, but we have ridden her Western, as well. She would need some practice with her new experienced soft handed rider to relax and give you a gentle, smooth ride. But, we believe, with some consistent practice, she could do just about anything you ask her to.
Lacey is up to date on shots, worming, teeth float, barefoot trims and is microchipped. All photos/videos are recent. We would really like to find Lacey a loving home with gentle pleasure riding and other horses to bond with when in pasture. Contact us to hear more about this fine lady.
