Marjorie McCoy; Founder and President
During her youth and teenage years, Marjorie spent most of her time thinking about, talking about, working with, riding and showing horses. Starting out with her little Shetland Pony, Kataba, her love for horses grew to into her life-long passion. Her dream was to be a large animal vet specializing in equine health and traveling from ranch to ranch caring for the animals. Her university studies toward an equine veterinarian degree were postponed by an unexpected, but joyful career as a singer/dancer in New York and venues around the world. After her travels, she established herself in a successful consulting career and raised her lovely daughter, Hannah Morgan. But, her desires to care for the needs of horses and animals never wavered. This passion led her to back to horses many times over the years. Marjorie joined the team at the Sonoma Equine Rescue, Rehab and Adoption (SERRA) in April 2016 volunteering to support the well-being, medical rehab and training of the horses. She found herself pulled into the administrative development of SERRA, and accepted a position on the Board of Directors in March 2017. In September 2017, she was elected President. As a Director, she brought 25 years of business ownership, operations, management and board officer experience for several for-profit and non-profit organizations, and experience in non-profit administration and fundraising. In 2020, she stepped down as President of SERRA to seek her own path in horse rescue. Marjorie's experiences with SERRA are ones she will never forget and cherishes all the joy she helped bring to many horses and their owners. In summer of 2020, Marjorie's search for horse property landed her in Penn Valley, CA with several acres of usable pasture land and started her own non-profit horse rescue. Marjorie founded Sundance Horse Rescue with the intention of rescuing, rehabilitating and re-homing horses in need. Marjorie feels strongly that all treasured horses (and animals) deserve to be loved and live meaningful lives and is committed to being a part of that purpose. She will continue to work closely with SERRA and other rescue organizations to create more organized rescue efforts, build bigger networks of safe and loving forever homes, and find inspirational ways to educate the community in proper and gentle horse care. She also continues her advanced training as a certified large animal emergency first responder. Hannah McCoy; Founder and Honorary Advisor
